RIVER TUBING ADVENTURE
Instructions
Trip Length: 3–4 Hours
MATS Bus Service Schedule: https://matsbus.com/
Start
- Launch your tubes from the Sheridan Boat Launch at the end of Sheridan Drive. The corner of Sheridan and Marquette has a MATS bus stop which is only a 25-minute walk from the boat launch (one-way bus passes are $1.25).
- Note: The river does not go in a circle, so you will need to plan a ride back to the Sheridan Boat Launch. We recommend going during a weekday between 7 AM and 5 PM when the MATS bus service is running, so you can ride the bus back to the boat launch.
End
- Leave the river at Richards Park (disc golf course).
- The corner of Marquette and Erickson has a MATS bus stop which is only a 25-minute walk from the park. You can ride the bus back to the Herman Ivory Terminal and then ride Bus 11 outbound to the Marquette and Sheridan bus stop. It's a 25-minute walk back to the boat launch from the bus stop.
Caution
- If this is your first time tubing the Muskegon River, we strongly recommend bringing someone along who has experience on this specific part of the river.
- The river layout changes all the time. Please have emergency plans in place in case you get lost (cell phone, first aid, food, and water).
- Do not attempt to travel the river alone if you cannot swim.
- If you cannot swim, we strongly recommend a US Coast Guard-approved life preserver for your trip.
- We strongly recommend using brightly colored tubes and swimsuits so you're easy for boaters to see.
- Check with the Michigan DNR on possible river closings and warnings before going out.
- Water shoes are strongly recommended to avoid stepping on fishing hooks.
- Always let someone know if you're going out on the river alone.
